THE HANDMADE COAT

Sewn by hand.
Stitch by stitch.

Each handmade coat is joined and finished by hand. Prepared fabric edges are carefully turned and closed with fine stitches, following the shape of the garment.

15stitches per 3 cmOUR HAND-SEWING STANDARD

Fifteen stitches in every three centimetres of the finished hand-sewn seam. Even spacing and controlled thread tension help the join sit neatly, without pulling the cloth into puckers.

Look closely at the needlework, then feel the seam in a sample.

01

Begin with the cloth.

The fabric gives a coat its surface and drape. Thread is chosen alongside it, so the smallest detail belongs to the whole.

Texture & drape

The brown cloth is draped to reveal its ripple texture and the way it catches the light. A physical swatch lets you feel the surface as well as see it.

Colour in context

Grey and brown fabrics are shown together, with their folds and surfaces visible. Compare the colours in your chosen fabric before settling the collection.

Thread selection

Thread shades are considered against the cloth. The colour of a fine joining stitch is part of the finish, even when it is barely visible.

02

Prepare for the handwork.

Shaped panels, temporary stitches and opened edges prepare the cloth for joining. The long white basting stitches shown here hold the work in place; they are not the final 15-stitch seam.

Shaped panels

The separate pieces show the contours that will become the coat. Preparation lines keep the construction visible before the panels are joined.

Basting the edges

Long, temporary stitches hold the prepared layers in position. This gives the hand-sewing work a stable starting point before the final seam is made.

Opening the edge

The fabric edge is guided past a ceramic splitting blade to separate its layers. This prepares the edge for turning and closing by hand.

03

Finish from the inside out.

Hand sewing brings the prepared edges together. Look inside the coat, too: the support within an edge, the line of a join and the place where the hem meets a seam all deserve the same attention.

Support within the edge

An opened fold reveals a narrow internal strip. It supports the edge’s shape from within, where it becomes part of the construction rather than a visible trim.

Preparing a junction

The inside meeting point is shown while the white basting stitches are still in place. Alignment here matters before the final hand-sewn closure.

The hand-sewn join

Turning back the cloth reveals the folded edge and joining line. In a sample, look for even spacing and tension, with the fabric lying smoothly beside the seam.

Where seam meets hem

The lower edge meets a vertical seam at this junction. Open the sample to examine how the finish continues across the join and how the layers sit together.

SEE IT. FEEL IT. REVIEW IT.

Let the sample
speak for the work.

Turn the edges, open the seams and check the stitch spacing. A sample lets you assess the fabric, handwork and finish together before agreeing the details for your order.
